Search Engine Optimization

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Many clients ask us how to test their page load speed, instead of actually loading their website and timing it (haha!). Load time is extremely important, not only from a search engine ranking perspective, but also for your audience. How long would you wait for a website to load before closing the tab? Google has a reliable tool that tests not only your browser load speed of your website, but also the mobile load speed; which is...

If you have a website, chances are you are tracking how your visitors found you online by using Google Analytics or another statistics program on your server. Have you recently noticed an increasing number of 'not provided' in your keyword list? This isn't an error with your tracking program or Google, it's because Google has stopped keyword tracking by using secure connections. Now you must be scratching your head wondering "why?? why would they do this to...

The term negative keywords can be misleading. Usually when you think of keywords, you're talking about search engine optimization. Keywords are the terms you want to rank for, right? So what exactly is a negative keyword? Negative keywords are keywords that you don't want to rank for. Now you must be thinking 'wait a second, why wouldn't I want to rank for a keyword?? The more rankings the better!' This is not true, because if you start...

Google's Hummingbird update was officially announced on September 26th, which sparked off a series of worried blog activity from search engine optimization strategists. "Oh no, not another algorithm change.." was being yelled across discussion boards. This time though, there's nothing really to worry about. Unlike the 'Panda' and 'Penguin' Google algorithm updates, Hummingbird is not a penalty based update (penalty based updates aim to clean up the search engine results for a query and deliver more...

The reason for this article is because of the number of people I have spoken to recently about organic SEO, and the common mistakes people make when trying to optimize their websites themselves. More and more people think they can simply research organic SEO tactics on the internet, get an understanding and now think they can optimize their website themselves; without fully understanding what is required with organic SEO to actually help your website rank.

If you’ve been reading my blog about search engine optimization and search engine optimization tips, you’re probably familiar with some of the basics of search engine optimization. Keyword density, keyword to text size ratio and many other factors will affect how well your website ranks. However, another important factor to consider is what type of keywords you should use. There are 2 main types: ‘Head Terms’ and ‘Long Tail Keywords’ and in this article, I’ll discuss the difference between a head term and long tail keyword, and in particular, how long tail keywords can greatly help your rankings and boost traffic to your website.

If you have a blog that gets a decent amount of traffic, chances are at some point you’ve received an email from an advertiser asking to buy advertising space or back links to their website within your blog article content. This happened to us a couple of months ago, we got an email from a ‘marketing agency’ in England asking if they could pay us to insert back links to their advertising clients’ websites, within a particular article on our blog. I naturally thought this was spam, and we don’t sell back links on our website or blog for any amount of money anyways, so I simply trashed it. However, this is actually pretty common and some people make a decent amount of money selling links within their article content. Well, the fun’s over now, as Google is starting to crack down on this as well.

So after posting a couple of recent posts on what’s going on in the SEO world, and some general tips and explanations about email set up, I have decided to go back to the main point of this blog: search engine optimization tips!

I just noticed that I have written posts on how to rank your website on google, what are meta tags and some other general search engine optimization tips, but realized I have not actually explained some of the fundamentals in search engine optimization, about where to begin. So I will now start from the beginning and explain some of the most important search engine optimization tips that will help your website rank well on major search engines.

Matt Cutts recently tweeted about a new algorithm update to Google that will apparently improve the diversity of of domains returned in Google searches. What does this mean for your website and rankings?

If you use Google often, you’ve probably noticed that for many searches, you’ll get the same domain in the results a couple of times. Sometimes the same domain can show a couple of times within the first two or three pages of the Google search results and sometimes you’ll see major directories dominate the results pages with their listings. This can be a bit annoying, especially when you’re looking for a range of results from different websites.
